During a white-water rafting expedition, a woman was flung out of the boat into the raging river. The people feared the worst and assumed she’d downed. But she had miraculously survived. She explained how, “I didn’t panic, but went with the flow of the current until I found a safe place to climb out onto the riverbank.” In like manner, you will need to surrender to your predicament without resistance. At times you may wonder if you are ever going to make it to safety. Fighting against your grief will only make it worse. You need to learn to go with the flow. One day you will find yourself standing on the riverbank wondering how on earth you mustered up the strength to scramble ashore. You will have survived the very thing that had the potential to drag you down into the depths of despair.
